FIELD: biotechnology.

SUBSTANCE: disclosed is recombinant C1 metabolising non-photosynthesizing microorganism comprising a heterologous polynucleotide encoding thioesterase, malonyl-CoA: acyl transfer protein-transacylase, acetyl-CoA-carboxylase or any combination thereof. Expression of said heterologous polynucleotide results in accumulation of fatty acids in the above microorganism at a higher level as compared to parental C1 metabolizing non-photosensitive microorganism. Said microorganism is methylotrophic and/or methanotrophic bacterium. Disclosed also is a biomass composition of the above, containing fatty acids at a higher level compared to the biomass of parental C1 metabolising non-photosensitive microorganism, intended for use for production of fuel, fuel additive, fodder for animals, energy or high-energy molecule, which is selected from fatty acids, esters of fatty acids, triglycerides, phospholipids, isoprenes, terpenes, polyhydroxyalkanoates and fatty alcohols. Disclosed also is a method of producing biomass, comprising culturing said microorganism, an oil composition of said microorganism, intended for use in producing fuel, fuel additive, fodder for animals, energy or high-energy molecule, which is selected from fatty acids, esters of fatty acids, triglycerides, phospholipids, isoprenes, terpenes, polyhydroxyalkanoates and fatty alcohols, method of producing said oil composition, as well as use of said microorganism.
