FIELD: controlling.

SUBSTANCE: area of application: for ultrasonic inspection of conductive cylindrical objects. The substance of the method consists in consecutively exciting ultrasonic transverse, longitudinal, and Rayleigh waves in the controlled zone of the cylindrical object using transmission and application-type electromagnetic-acoustic transducers; recording a series of pulses of ultrasonic waves passing through along the cross section and perimeter of the cylindrical object multiple times, using the same electromagnetic-acoustic transducers; based on the resulting oscillograms, determining the difference in the times of propagation between the mth and nth pulses; based on the values of said times, with account for the known values of the diameter of the object, the density of material of the object, and the correction factor for the velocity of the Rayleigh wave, determining the velocities of acoustic waves and the elastic modules along the cross section of the object and within the surface layer; measuring the envelopes of the amplitudes of the series of pulses of ultrasonic waves, used to assess the presence of discontinuity-type defects in the volume of the object and within the surface layer.
