SUBSTANCE: invention relates to ophthalmology and is intended for determining the risk of complications of laser keratorefractive intervention in patients with type 1 diabetes mellitus (DM). Performing laser confocal microscopy of the cornea with visualization of nerve fibers in layers of anterior epithelium and Bowman's membrane. Anisotropic coefficient value of corneal nerve fibers orientation is determined. A risk of complications with a coronary artery nerve fiber anisotropy coefficient less than 3.0 is predicted.

EFFECT: method enables obtaining accurate data on the corneal state on the basis of which it is possible to more carefully select patients with type 1 DM for keratorefractive correction and to exclude patients who are not shown keratorefractive intervention.
