SUBSTANCE: invention relates, in fact, to columns, in which there are mass exchange and heat exchange, and in particular to contact plates for use in such columns to improve interaction between flows of fluids flowing inside columns, and to a method of using contact plates for mass exchange and/or heat exchange. Contact plate for use in a column for mass exchange or heat exchange comprises a tray plate column with an inlet zone and a spaced apart outlet for receiving liquid on the plate of the tray, and then releasing the liquid, after it flows through the plate of the tray and interacts with the other fluid on the plate of the tray and above it. Between the inlet zone and outlet there are multiple barriers. Each of said barriers has plates and openings located at some distance from each other in gaps between any adjacent plates. Plates prevent fluid flow and increase liquid load on web of plate of column upstream, as fluid flows from inlet zone through openings, and then into outlet hole.

EFFECT: invention improves steam passage capacity of tray at low values of liquid flow rate.
