FIELD: electrical engineering.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to an apparatus configured to generate ionizing radiation. Device comprises high-voltage source of charge and ionizing radiation, housing filled with insulating fluid medium and containing high-voltage source. Device additionally comprises insulator, on which source of high voltage is installed so that source is located at distance from housing. Device additionally contains one or more collector electrodes, located in housing so, that high voltage source is mainly discharged on them. Device additionally comprises a control system configured to determine the level of ionisation of the insulating fluid medium from the discharge value to the collector electrode(s). Instrument further comprises discharge current limitation means, controlled by control system for deionization of insulating fluid medium at controlled discharge current and, thus, maintenance of maximum discharge current below preset value.
EFFECT: technical result is possibility of preventing electric breakdown.
