FIELD: measuring equipment.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method of measuring concentration of elements using a hand-held analyzer. Method includes outputting a pack of laser pulses with repetition frequency from 0.1 to 50 kHz, wherein each pulse is characterized by duration from 0.01 to 1.5 ns and energy of 50–1000 mcJ. Laser beam is focused on analyzed sample without presence of inert gases to generate highly ionized plasma at high temperature, emitting characteristic spectra in the required wavelength range. Method also includes scanning with a focused laser beam around the sample area to generate plasma at each point within the region by a single pulse, collecting plasma radiation in a spectrometer and generating an output signal. Output signal is processed to measure concentration of elements, including carbon, present in sample, wherein concentration of carbon is measured in generated plasma, using a spectral line of double-charged carbon ions in the wavelength range, including wavelength of 229.687 nm.
EFFECT: technical result is higher sensitivity and accuracy of measurements.
