FIELD: measurement technology.

SUBSTANCE: use: for quantitative determination of number and size of components in form of particles contained in medium flowing along flow channel. Essence of the invention consists in the fact that ultrasound waves are introduced into the current medium, which are at least partially reflected from the components in the form of particles, and reflected from them components of ultrasonic waves are detected in form of ultrasonic time signals, which are basis for quantitative determination, wherein input of ultrasonic waves into current medium so, that at least part of introduced ultrasonic waves is reflected from area of wall of flow channel, limiting current medium, or from a reflector arranged inside the flow channel, due to which an ultrasonic time echo signal is formed, which is related to the wall area or with the reflector; determining at least one amplitude threshold function which sets, for each detected ultrasonic time signal, an amplitude threshold value, taking into account at least ultrasonic time echo signal; detecting associated with separate ultrasonic time signals amplitude values, which are respectively greater than the amplitude threshold set for the corresponding ultrasonic time signals, and then correlating detected amplitude values with values which describe size and number of components in form of particles.

EFFECT: possibility of determining number of particles, concentration of particles and/or particle size in mixtures of substances, liquids, suspensions, especially melts with high accuracy and reproducibility.
