SUBSTANCE: method for encoding a data signal with support for hiding sign data, representing at least one image divided into sections, in which an image section is set, comprising a set of coefficients, identifying first and last non-zero coefficients in said set of coefficients, determining number of coefficients from first nonzero coefficient to last nonzero coefficient, including first and last non-zero coefficients, and in response to determining that number is greater than 4: calculating sum of information of amplitudes of non-zero coefficients in a set of coefficients, calculating, using the sum of information of amplitudes of non-zero coefficients, parity check data, selecting a certain nonzero coefficient to be encoded into a bit stream without a sign bit, when parity indicates parity and the sign of a particular nonzero coefficient is negative, modifying coefficient between first and last non-zero coefficient and transmitting modified set of coefficients.

EFFECT: technical result consists in improvement of efficiency of data compression.
