FIELD: image processing.

SUBSTANCE: group of inventions relates to the field of image processing, namely, to coding and decoding of digital images and sequences of digital images. Method is proposed for coding data of at least one area of areas obtained by dividing at least one image, the current area to be coded contains data in which at least one data element has been assigned a sign, and the data are coefficients of forward transformation. The method implements for the current region the step of calculating a value of a function representing the parity of the sum of data of the current region excluding said sign. Then, according to the method, the computed value is compared with the parity of the sign. In this case, depending on the result of the comparison, modification is performed with at least one element of the data of the current region.

EFFECT: improving efficiency of coding/decoding images.
