FIELD: data processing.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to digital signal processing. Method of comparing an image with a template, in which an image is obtained, above the obtained image and the template, transformation is performed beforehand and correlation is calculated between the converted image and the template. Gradient conversion is carried out above the obtained image and the template using the following algorithm: for each pixel of the image, the difference between the values of the current pixel and the left pixel is calculated l = img(x, y)-img(x-1, y), the difference between the values of the current pixel and the upper pixel u = img(x, y)-img(x, y-1), difference between values of current pixel and upper-right pixel ru = img(x, y)-img(x + 1, y-1), then generating gradient images of template and obtained image, where each pixel is equal to maximum value from calculated grad (x, y) = max (l, u, ru), after obtaining gradient images correlation is calculated between them, and if correlation satisfies specified value, it is concluded that image contains desired template.

EFFECT: technical result consists in improvement of accuracy of determining conformity of an image and a template.
