FIELD: physics.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to methods for detecting an intruder and recognizing its type. Proposed method consists in control of bend of road by one passive infrared detection means and in registration of alarm signal data collection and processing system from detection facility at intruder crossing its detection zone. Detection means is installed so that its optical axis crosses the road on two sections on both sides of the road bend point. Minimum distance from the detection means to the far section of the road intersection with the optical axis is set, wherein the human detection zone by the detection means crosses the road only at one area close to the detection means, and the vehicle detection zone by the detection means crosses the road at two sections - near and far from the detection means. Maximum accumulation time of the alarm information collection and processing system from the detection means is established from the moment when the first alarm signal comes from it based on the person's minimum possible speed along the road and the distance he travels between the near and far sections of the road crossing with the optical axis of the detection means. Information collection and processing system employs an algorithm which identifies the type of intruder detected by the detection means by the number of alarm signals received from the apparatus for the maximum signal accumulation time: two alarm signals - movement on the road of the intruder on the car, one alarm signal - movement along the road of the foot intruder.

EFFECT: technical result consists in enabling identification of intruder type - foot intruder or intruder on vehicle, with low probability of error and using only one detection means.
