FIELD: metallurgy.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method of processing sheet blanks from iron-based alloy using a laser beam. Using the laser beam, the local section of the sheet from the iron-based alloy is melted along the straight or curved trajectory along and/or across the full or incomplete thickness. Simultaneously with remelting metal is supplied, containing carbide-forming element in form of powder or wire into melt zone, so that metal containing carbide-forming element, changed to liquid state, interacting with molten metal sheet from iron-based alloy. Laser beam is melted with specific heat input of 20–25 kJ/m, laser beam movement speed of 15–250 mm/s and laser radiation power of 1–20 kW.

EFFECT: result is increased stiffness of sheet workpieces.
