FIELD: wireless communication.

SUBSTANCE: said technical result is achieved by transmitting a positioning signal in a direction towards user equipment, in which position is to be determined, i.e. with higher power of signal in direction towards UE or compared to other direction. Improvement can be obtained due to higher accuracy and/or due to higher number of user equipment that can receive positioning signal. Directivity can provide high signal power and/or high signal-to-noise ratio for paths along line of visibility in user equipment and can therefore improve. Base station is configured to control a wireless communication network cell in a wireless communication network and to use coarse position information, relating to coarse position of user equipment to determine direction to user equipment. Base station is configured to transmit a positioning signal to the user equipment and to direct positioning signal transmission to user equipment. Positioning signal is adapted to enable determination of information of accurate position related to user equipment.

EFFECT: high accuracy of determining location of user equipment.
