FIELD: medicine.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to medicine, namely to neonatology, paediatrics and hematology, and can be used for prediction of development of late anemia of premature infants born with body weight less than 1500 g. Peripheral venous blood of the newborn is measured on 3-5th day of life of the absolute number of reticulocytes (RET#), average volume of reticulocytes (MCVr), transferrin saturation ratio with iron, ferritin and serum iron content. A prognostic index D is calculated by formula D=6.071-0.0055×A1+0.0607×A2+0.0033×A3-0.7626×A4+0.2325×A5, where A1 is an absolute number of reticulocytes (RET#), ×109/l; A2 is the average volume of reticulocytes (MCVr), fl; A3 - ferritin, mcg/l; A4 - serum iron, mcmol/l; A5 is iron transferrin saturation coefficient, %, 6.071 - CONSTANT. If D is more than 0, the development of the late anemia of premature infants is predicted in three months. If D is less than 0, the absence of development in three months of life of late anemia of premature infants is predicted.
EFFECT: method enables predicting development of late anemia of premature infants in three months of life in deep-seated children with birth weight less than 1500 g by examining the parameters determining the iron-binding ability of blood in newborns, and calculating a prognostic index.
