FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to metallurgy and namely to methods of manufacturing hot- and cold-worked hafnium products used in nuclear engineering, electronics, in devices for plasma cutting and welding. The method of manufacturing hot-deformed hafnium rods includes heating ingots with a diameter of at least 140 mm to a temperature of at least 900C and forging them with a total elongation ratio of 4 to 10, forging ingots into forgings, cutting forgings into dimensional blanks, removing the surface substandard layer, heating the blanks to a temperature of 800 to 1000C and hot extrusion of the blanks into pre-finished or finished size rods with an elongation ratio of 5 to 20 and subsequent removal of the surface substandard layer from the rod surface. A method for manufacturing cold-worked hafnium wire includes making rods, performing cold deformation of rods by rolling or drawing with intermediate anneals and with stretch ratios between annealing from 1.05 to 4.5 and finishing annealing at temperatures from 700 to 1000C.
EFFECT: invention ensures high surface quality and dimensional accuracy of manufactured products.
