FIELD: nuclear energy.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to methods and means of protecting and removing residual heat from structures of nuclear power plants in emergency situations, including in severe accidents (SA). Invention can be used in systems of protection and emergency removal of residual heat from housings of nuclear reactor and melt localization device in beyond-design SA. Invention provides for combined use of various cooling and protection circuits (gas, gas-liquid, disperse, liquid), based on simultaneous or separate supply by spraying of cooling and protective media to external cooled surface of reactor housing in emergency conditions. Spraying devices are located in a gap around the outer wall of the reactor housing, that allows to intensify the process of cooling and protection of the reactor vessel at high (more than 2 MW/m2) values of the thermal load acting on the hull of the nuclear reactor.
EFFECT: technical result is the possibility of preserving the integrity of the structure of the housing of the nuclear reactor and preventing the release of radioactive materials beyond the reactor installation in beyond-design VA.
