FIELD: surgical stapling tools.
SUBSTANCE: extensible reinforcing assembly configured to be used with a surgical stapling instrument having a longitudinal axis comprises: reinforcing element formed by a flat fabric having a first side and a second side opposite to the first side, wherein the flat fabric contains fibers which: substantially not aligned with the surgical stapling instrument longitudinal axis or substantially aligned with the surgical stapling instrument longitudinal axis; and a bioabsorbable adhesive, wherein the bioabsorbable adhesive is applied on the first side and/or on the second side of the flat tissue and is configured to attach the stretchable reinforcing assembly to the end effector of the surgical stapling instrument. Reinforcing assembly is, in fact, stretched in one direction. Also disclosed is a method of using a surgical stapling instrument for applying staples on a tissue and an expandable reinforcing assembly.
EFFECT: group of inventions provides a surgical suturing instrument with a support material for reinforcing mechanical fastening of the tissue provided by the staples.
