FIELD: coating.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method of applying a coat onto a base. Method of applying a foam coating to a base includes (a) introducing foam into a base comprised of multiple channels through the open ends of the channels at the first end of the base, (b) creating a vacuum at the open ends of the channels at the second end of the base wherein the foam is pulled into the base using the vacuum through the open ends of the channels at the first end, (c) drying and/or calcining the base containing the particle-stabilized foam to form a solid foam layer located on the base or applied to it as to a carrier, wherein the base is made of a material comprising at least one of silicon carbide and cordierite, wherein the base is a celled monolithic base with multiple channels extending longitudinally along the length of the base, wherein the foam comprises dispersed material and the foam is stabilized by particles.
EFFECT: providing and achieving certain advantages in overcoming disadvantages of using coating made of a porous oxide in traditional coating methods for manufacture of emission controlling apparatuses, providing excellent control over the dosage of low thickness coating which allows applying uniform coating layers.
