FIELD: exhaust gas purification.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to an oxidation catalyst and an exhaust system for purifying exhaust gases formed by an internal combustion engine, in particular a diesel engine. The invention also relates to methods and uses of an oxidation catalyst, exhaust system, or area for capturing at least one phosphorus-containing impurity and/or at least one sulfur-containing impurity in the exhaust gases formed by a diesel engine. An oxidation catalyst is described for purifying the exhaust gases formed by a diesel engine, where the oxidation catalyst contains: a substrate; a capturing material for capturing at least one phosphorus-containing impurity and/or at least one sulfur-containing impurity in the exhaust gases formed by a diesel engine; and a catalytic area located on the substrate; while the catalytic area contains a catalytic material containing a platinum group metal (PGM) selected from a group consisting of platinum (Pt), palladium (Pd) and combinations of platinum (Pt) and palladium (Pd).
EFFECT: invention makes it possible to reduce or prevent the deterioration of the oxidative activity of the oxidation catalyst.
