SUBSTANCE: invention relates to multilayer catalytic converters with interlayer cooling, to combinations of structural elements of a converter and to a method of cooling a gas stream with the described apparatus. A multilayer catalytic converter comprising at least a first catalytic layer, a second catalytic layer and a heat exchanger located between the first layer and the second layer and configured to transfer heat from the hot outgoing stream of the first layer to the refrigerant, wherein the heat exchanger is comprised of several piled round plates constituting solid circular plates or annular plates, wherein gaps are formed between adjacent plates and the outgoing stream of the first catalytic layer and the coolant are fed, respectively, into alternating gaps. The method is implemented during operation of the apparatus.
EFFECT: technical result is increased efficiency of heat transfer and structure density.
