FIELD: wireless communication.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the field of wireless communication. The wireless communication device determines, while in a radio resource control (RRC) dormant state with respect to the wireless communication network, that a radio access network notification area (RNAU) update is needed; evaluates if there is any other reason for resuming the RRC connected state other than the need for an RNAU; and transmits an RRC renewal request message to the wireless network in response to said determination, wherein said RRC renewal request message contains a reason indicator, wherein said reason indicator indicates an RNAU in a case where said estimate identifies no other reason for renewal RRC connected state.
EFFECT: provided is ability to avoid any duplicate signaling.
