FIELD: processing of meat.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the meat processing industry, particularly to an apparatus for cutting sausages. The apparatus for cutting (10) an extruded piece of sausage into smaller portions of sausage is comprised of a support base (26) forming a supply path (36) wherein the cut sausage is held on and moves along said path; a first cutting unit (28) located on one side of the supply path including an elongated continuous carrier element (38) and multiple longitudinally spaced first cutting apparatuses (30) rigidly connected to the carrier element, wherein each first cutting apparatus is equipped with a cutting blade (44) and an adjacent supporting surface (46) separated therefrom. The apparatus for cutting sausages additionally comprises a second cutting unit (32) located on the opposite side of the supply path, wherein said unit includes an elongated continuous carrier element and multiple longitudinally spaced second cutting apparatuses (30) rigidly connected to said carrier element, wherein each second cutting apparatus is equipped with a cutting blade (44); and a guide system for controlling movement of the first and second cutting apparatuses along the first and second cutting paths, respectively, located in a complex adjacent with the supply path wherein each of the first cutting apparatuses is connected with one specific second cutting apparatus so that during cutting, the respective first and second cutting apparatuses initially move into each other until said cutting blade of the second cutting apparatus is at least partially placed within the space formed between the cutting blade and the supporting surface of the first cutting apparatus in a joint engaging action to cut the sausage, and then move apart from each other.
