FIELD: medicine; ophthalmology.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to ophthalmology and medicine. A polymer-based eye inlay has been developed for medicine delivery by non-invasive injection into the superior or inferior fornix of eye conjunctiva. The inlay has a spherical shape and includes at least one polymer layer containing at least one medicine contained in the central core and/or dispersed in at least one polymer layer. The insert allows delayed release of at least one medicine over a release period of up to 300 days. The inlay has a symmetrical spherical shape with a diameter of 2 to 8 mm or an asymmetric spherical shape with a large radius (y) within the range of 0.5 to 4 mm and a smaller radius (y') within the range of 0.0 to 4.0 mm. The polymer layer includes a polyether, such as polycaprolactone, polylactic acid, polyhycolic acid or their copolymers, and a polyol, such as polyethylene glycol, castor oil or polyvinyl alcohol, and the polyol content in the finished mixture is from 0 to 50%. The medicine can be selected from antibiotics, antiviral, anti-allergic, anti-inflammatory, decongestants, pupil constricting agents, anticholinesterase agents, pupil dilating agents, sympathomimetic, immunological, hormonal agents, beta-adrenergic receptor blockers, growth factors, carbonic anhydrase inhibitors.
EFFECT: invention provides a higher and longer medicine release.
