FIELD: aerosol generators.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to aerosol generating devices and aerosol generating systems containing such a device. The aerosol generating device (1) comprises a device housing (2) containing a receiving chamber (3) adapted to accommodate any of consumable component of the first type (41) and consumable component of the second type (42). The receiving chamber contains the first element (31) to accommodate consumable component of the first type and contains the second element (32) to accommodate consumable component of the second type, or contains an element switch to select between the first element and the second element. The first and second elements differ in at least one of the shape, size, or position in the receiving chamber. The device further comprises an aerosol generation system connected to at least part of the receiving chamber, and a detection system designed to detect the presence of a first-type consumable component or a second-type consumable component inserted into the receiving chamber. The aerosol generation system is designed to interact with any of the consumable components of the first type or the second type after it is inserted into the receiving chamber to generate the aerosol.

EFFECT: invention makes it possible to provide the user with more options for choice associated with the use of different consumable components.
