FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the field of determining the characteristics of the underlying surfaces for remote identification of the state of snow and ice cover, in particular to systems for ensuring the safety of transportation (delivery) of goods and objects in a reservoir with snow and ice cover. The controlled area is scanned at an inclination with a linear-frequency-modulated signal with vertical and horizontal polarization at an angle θ in the range from 25° to 45° where θ is the angle between the scanning direction and the normal to the surface of the investigated area. The ratios of the squares of the Fresnel reflection coefficients of signals with horizontal and vertical polarization from the interface between the layers and the relative conductivities of the layers of the snow-ice cover are determined by the formula , where m = 2, 3, …, n –number of the layer of snow-ice cover, index m = 2 corresponds to the first layer of snow-ice cover. The obtained values of the relative dielectric conductivities of the layers are compared with the given values of εvrΔ and the state of the snow-ice cover is determined by the condition εrm=εvrΔ: “snow cover”, “firn”, “ice cover” or “water”.
EFFECT: increasing the probability of identifying the constituent elements of the structure of the snow and ice cover, increasing the level of safety of transportation of goods through the reservoir with snow and ice cover.
