FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: invention is used for remote assessment of the state of the snow and ice cover. The essence of the invention lies in the fact that additionally, the dependence of the Fresnel reflection coefficients Rvi,i+1, i,i + 1 of the interfaces of the layers of the controlled area on the angle of incidence within the range from 40 to 90° is determined, the Brewster angles θBi,i+1, i, i + 1 of the interfaces of the layers are determined, the relative dielectric conductivities of the layers εri+1 of the snow-ice cover are determined by the formula εri+1=(tgθBi,i+1], the obtained values of the relative dielectric conductivities of the layers are compared with the given values εvrΔ and the state of the snow and ice cover is assessed according to the condition εri+1=εvrΔ: “snow cover”, “firn”, “ice cover” or “water”.
EFFECT: improving the identification accuracy of the constituent elements of the structure of the snow and ice cover.
