FIELD: inorganic chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the field of inorganic chemistry and can be used in production of an irreversible luminescent temperature indicator. First, cerium dioxide and terbium(III, IV) oxide are dissolved in concentrated orthophosphoric acid. The molar ratio of Ce:Tb therein is 20:1 to 5:1, and the concentration of cerium in the cerium phosphate solution is 0.01 to 0.8 M. Distilled water is added to the resulting cerium phosphate solution so that the volumetric ratio of cerium phosphate solution : distilled water is from 1:3 to 1:8. The formed gel is purified from excess phosphoric acid, dried, and a xerogel of amorphous cerium (IV) orthophosphate containing terbium is obtained, e.g., in form of a thin-layered material. After annealing at temperatures of approximately 700°C, the resulting product exhibits green luminescence under UV irradiation and can be used as a temperature indicator both by itself and in compositions comprising other components.
EFFECT: invention allows to expand the range of technical means intended for visual registration of the overheating temperature of parts or equipment at high temperatures.
