METHODS FOR CONVERTING OLEFINS INTO ALCOHOLS, ESTERS, OR COMBINATIONS THEREOF Russian patent published in 2021 - IPC C07C29/141 C07C31/10 C07C31/12 C07C31/125 C07C45/50 C07C47/02

Abstract RU 2751511 C2

FIELD: chemistry.

SUBSTANCE: method for converting olefins into alcohols, esters, or combinations thereof suitable for use as a gasoline additive is proposed, including: (a) obtaining a feed stream containing one or more olefins containing 2 to 5 carbon atoms, in an amount of up to 80% by weight relative to the mass of the feed stream, and that the feed stream contains at least 50% propylene; (b) hydroformylation of the feed stream in the presence of a catalyst to convert at least 80% of the olefins from the feed stream to oxygenates, the specified catalyst containing rhodium and at least one organophosphite; (c) separation of the product stream from stage (b) into an oxygenate stream and a stream containing unreacted olefins, inert substances, a catalyst, and remaining oxygenates; and (d) treatment of the oxygenate stream to convert a plurality of oxygenates into at least one of alcohol, ether, or combinations thereof containing at least 3 carbon atoms, wherein treatment of the oxygenate stream involves hydrogenation of the oxygenate into alcohol, with at least 25% by weight of these alcohols and esters containing at least 3 carbon atoms are branched, relative to the total mass of alcohols and esters containing at least 3 carbon atoms, and these alcohols, esters or combinations thereof are suitable for use as a gasoline additive.

EFFECT: ensuring that a substantial portion of the diluted, lower-grade olefin contained in the high-alkane stream is converted into a valuable product, ensuring that the diluted, lower-grade olefin stream is converted into highly branched oxygenates that can be used in high yields, and ensuring that such streams are converted into oxygenates without significant decomposition of the catalyst and / or ligand.
