SUBSTANCE: invention can be used to measure the position of the interface between two liquids. In the method, two identical segments of a coaxial long line are placed vertically, electromagnetic vibrations are excited in these segments at different resonant frequencies f1 and f2, a joint functional transformation f1, f2 and t is performed, electromagnetic vibrations are excited in two segments of a coaxial long line containing at their lower ends identical horizontal sections of length z0, intermittently filled with liquid when it enters the container and emptied when the liquid is removed from the container, their resonant frequencies are measured, and probing of liquids with electromagnetic video signals in a segment of a two-wire line, receiving video signals reflected from its lower end, at its upper end, is carried out when this segment of a two-wire line is short-circuited at its lower end and a joint functional transformation f1 (z, z0), f2 (z,z0) and t(z) is performed.
