SUBSTANCE: invention can be used to accurately determine the position of the interface between two mediums in a container, in particular two immiscible liquids of different density. In a container with media, two lengths of a coaxial long line are placed vertically, with end horizontal sections of fixed length, spasmodically filled media and respectively emptied when the entry of media into the container and their removal from it. Excite in the segments of a long line electromagnetic oscillations at different resonant frequencies f1 and f2, which correspond to different energy distributions of the electromagnetic field of a standing wave, and these resonant frequencies are measured as a function of the position coordinate of the interface between the two media. Between the parallel outer conductors of lengths of a long line, electromagnetic oscillations are excited as in a segment of a two-wire long line having a reactive resistance at the end of its horizontal section, different from the reactive resistance of the lengths of the coaxial long line, the resonant frequency f3 section of a two-wire long line and produce a joint functional processing.
EFFECT: high accuracy of measurements.
