SUBSTANCE: invention can be used to determine the position of the interface between two dielectric media, in particular two immiscible liquids with different densities, regardless of the values of the permittivity. In the method, two segments of a coaxial long line are placed, each of which has a length l, electromagnetic vibrations are excited in the segments at different resonant frequencies ƒ1 and ƒ2, and the resonant frequencies ƒ1 and ƒ2 are measured depending on the z coordinate of the interface between the two media in the tank, the outer conductors of both segments are performed with lower terminal, abruptly filled media and emptied, electromagnetic vibrations are excited between the parallel outer conductors of the segments as in a segment of a two-wire long line, having at the end of its horizontal section a load reactance different from the load reactants at the ends of the segments, at the third resonant frequency ƒ3, which corresponds to a distribution of the energy of the electromagnetic field of the standing wave along this segment, different from ƒ1 and ƒ2, and ƒ3 is measured depending on the z coordinate and functional processing is performed according to the corresponding dependence.
EFFECT: increase in measurement accuracy.
