SUBSTANCE: invention relates to measuring equipment and can be used for high-precision determination of the level of a liquid in a container, regardless of the electrophysical parameters of the liquid. In the method for determining the liquid level in a container, in the first measurement, electromagnetic pulse signals are excited in a segment of a long line in a segment of a long line with a length l located vertically in a container with a controlled liquid and filled with liquid in accordance with its level z in the container, signals reflected from the lower end of a segment of a long line are received, the total time t of forward and reverse propagation of pulse signals is measured, additionally, in the second measurement, electromagnetic vibrations are excited in a segment of a long line, its resonant frequency f of electromagnetic vibrations is measured and a joint functional transformation of the results of the first and second measurements is performed. The second measurement is made in another segment of a long line placed vertically in the container, having at the lower end a horizontal section of a fixed length z0, skippingly filled with liquid and emptied respectively when the liquid enters the container and is removed from the container, and the z value of the liquid level is determined.
EFFECT: increased accuracy of measurements.
