FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a cup for casting slabs for use in a plant for continuous slab casting, characterized by a specific geometric shape of the outer wall of its downstream section, which is inserted into a cavity of a mold for casting slabs. The specific geometric shape provides a “bypass” effect, due to which each of converging opposite flows of molten metal flowing to two opposite sides of the cup for casting slabs is preferably deflected in the direction of one side of the cup for casting slabs, where they can freely flow through narrow channels formed between the cup for casting slabs and the wall of the cavity of the mold for casting slabs, without colliding with each other.
EFFECT: service life of the cup for casting slabs is extended due to significant reduction in the erosion rate of its outer wall.
