SUBSTANCE: invention relates to autonomous vehicles. A method for identifying the presence of a track on the current terrain whereon the autonomous car is moving, including an electronic apparatus using the data from a sensor to form a current terrain profile represented by a change in the height of the surface of the current terrain along the width and containing a pair of current depressions potentially indicating the presence of a track on the current terrain. The method also includes using an electronic apparatus to receive a model terrain profile from the memory apparatus, represented by a change in the height of the surface of a given terrain along the width and containing a pair of model recesses indicating the presence of a track on the given terrain, using the current terrain profile and the model terrain profile by the electronic apparatus to form comparison data indicating the similarity between the current terrain profile and the model terrain profile, and using the comparison data by the electronic apparatus to identify the presence of a track on the current terrain.
EFFECT: timely action-planning by the autonomous vehicle is achieved.
