SUBSTANCE: inventions group relates to a liquid for obtaining a chromium-free insulating coating on the surface of a grain-oriented electrical steel sheet, a grain-oriented electrical steel sheet with an applied insulating coating and a method for its production. The liquid for obtaining a chromium-free insulating coating contains at least one salt of phosphoric acid selected from phosphate salts of any of Mg, Ca, Ba, Sr, Zn, Al and Mn, colloidal silicon dioxide, the content of which in terms of SiO₂ and in terms of solid the substance is 50 to 120 parts by mass; and the particles of the compound containing the metal element, the content of which, calculated as elemental metal, is from 5 to 60 parts by mass per 100 parts by mass of at least one phosphate salt. The coating fluid has a thixotropy index (TI) ranging from 1.20 or more to 10.00 or less.

EFFECT: invention provides a liquid for obtaining a chromium-free insulating coating having excellent resistance to moisture absorption and capable of imparting high tension to achieve an excellent effect of reducing iron loss, while the liquid for obtaining an insulating coating inhibits the appearance of defects that may appear after it is applied to the steel sheet and sintering.
