FIELD: forestry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the field of forestry, namely, to methods for estimating the mechanical stability of woody plants. The method for estimating the mechanical stability of a silver birch in an urban environment includes measuring the diameter of the trunk of the tree at a height of 1.3 m (d 1.3) or the diameter of the base of a main branch of the silver birch using a caliper for the trunk or a sliding caliper for the main branches; measuring the height of the trunk using a digital altimeter, or analogues of accurate measurement, or a tape measure for measuring the length of the main branches; calculating the ratio of the diameter of the trunk or the main branch and the height of the trunk or the length of the main branch (d/l) using any computing apparatus in order to establish the value of the indicator, is characterised by the fact that the obtained data of the d/l indicator is compared with a value of 0.01, wherein, above said value, the mechanical stability has high values and low accident rate, otherwise, the plant is considered mechanically unstable, with high accident rate.
EFFECT: method provides express estimation of the accident rate and mechanical stability of the trunk and main branches of the Betula pendula woody plant on various areas of urban plantations in conditions of high and low man-induced load.
