FIELD: forestry.
SUBSTANCE: method relates to forestry and can be used in planning urban areas greening in order to create highly resistant plantations. Method of evaluating mechanical stability consists in finding the radius of the base of the trunk, then, decimal logarithm of bending stiffness – Log10 EI is calculated to establish the value of the obtained index for a specific tree with due allowance for its age. When calculating the decimal logarithm of bending stiffness, the values of the modulus of elasticity of wood tissues of wood plants at age of 26–75 years are used. At Log10 EI>6.0 N⋅m2, type is considered to be mechanically highly stable. If Log10 EI is less than or equal to 6.0 N⋅m2, type is considered to be low-resistant to action of dynamic – wind, snow and ice storms, and static – own weight, glaciation, snow adhesion, presence of animals or plants, loads in conditions of anthropogenic pollution of industrial cities.
EFFECT: development of fast method for evaluation of mechanical stability of 19 types of trees in conditions of anthropogenic pollution by one measured parameter.
