FIELD: forestry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the field of forestry, namely, to methods for estimating the mechanical stability of woody plants. The method includes measuring the diameter of the base of a main branch of a common oak using a caliper; measuring the length of the main branches using a tape measure; calculating the ratio of the diameter of the main branch and the length of the main branch (d/l) using any computing apparatus in order to establish the value of the indicator. The obtained data of the d/l indicator are compared with a value of 0.01, wherein, above said value, the mechanical stability has high values and low accident rate, otherwise the plant is considered mechanically unstable, with high accident rate.
EFFECT: method provides express estimation of the accident rate and mechanical stability of the crown (main branches) of common oak on various areas of urban plantations in conditions of high and low man-induced load.
