SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the field of development of methods for controlling a coefficient of coupling between wheels of a railway vehicle and a rail, in particular to methods for assessing contamination and purification of a rail. A method for assessing contamination of a rail for a railway vehicle contains stages, in which first slip value (δ1) is applied, which will be lower than first set threshold value (t1) between wheels (W1) of first controlled axis (A1) of the railway vehicle and the rail, while first controlled axis (A1) is the main axis of the railway vehicle in accordance with the direction of movement of the railway vehicle. Second slip value (δ2) is applied, which will be greater than second set threshold value (t2) between wheels of second controlled axis (A2) and the rail, while second controlled axis (A2) is an axis following mentioned first axis (A1) in accordance with the direction of movement of the train, and second set threshold value (t2) is greater than mentioned first set threshold value (t1). The displacement of a coupling curve between wheels (W) belonging to a set of controlled axles (An) of the railway vehicle and the rail is determined based on first value of coupling (μ1) between wheels of mentioned first axis (A1) and the rail, and second value of coupling (μ2) between wheels of mentioned second axis (A2) and the rail.
EFFECT: it becomes possible to better assess the effect of purifying rail contamination.
