SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the field of medicine. A method for predicting the risk of developing primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG) without exfoliative syndrome in Russian natives of the Central Black Earth Region of the Russian Federation is proposed. DNA is isolated from the peripheral venous blood. Analysis of genetic markers of matrix metalloproteinases is carried out. When detecting the GGG haplotype at the rs17576 locus, both rs3787268 and rs2250889 of the MMP9 gene predict a high risk of POAG development without exfoliative syndrome.

EFFECT: invention provides for obtaining new criteria for assessing the risk of POAG development without exfoliative syndrome in individuals of Russian nationality, natives of the Central Black Earth region of the Russian Federation from Belgorod, Kursk, Voronezh, Tambov and Lipetsk regions.
