SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the maintenance of motor vehicles, in particular to methods for determining the environmental safety of maintenance of vehicles, tractors, combines and other self-propelled vehicles. When determining the environmental safety of maintenance of machines according to the specific total density of the volume of maintenance operations using fuel and lubricants, the ingress of fuel and lubricants into the soil by types of maintenance of a particular brand of machine in the field is taken into account by the number of operations using fuel and lubricants. According to the calculated value of the named environmental indicator, the environmental safety of the maintenance of machines is determined.
