DEVICES AND METHODS FOR MOVING FLUID THROUGH INSTALLED PERIPHERAL INTRAVENOUS CATHETER Russian patent published in 2022 - IPC A61B5/15 A61M25/01 A61M25/06

Abstract RU 2763749 C2

FIELD: medical equipment.

SUBSTANCE: group of inventions relates, in general, to medical devices for moving fluid, more specifically, to devices and methods for moving fluid to or from a patient through an installed peripheral intravenous catheter. The device for moving fluid to or from a patient contains a catheter, a conductor and an actuator. The catheter has a proximal end section and a distal end section and forms a lumen extending through the proximal end section and the distal end section. The conductor has a proximal end section and a distal end section and forms an internal volume made with the possibility of movably receiving the catheter. The distal end section of the conductor has a lock made with the possibility of connecting the conductor to a peripheral line for intravenous injection. The actuator is movably connected to the conductor. The actuator has the first section located outside the conductor and the second section located in the internal volume of the conductor and connected to the proximal end section of the catheter. The actuator is made with the possibility of moving relatively to the conductor to move the catheter between the first position, in which the catheter is located inside the conductor, and the second position, in which the distal end section of the catheter is located behind the distal end section of the conductor, in such a way that at least the first section of the catheter is located inside the peripheral line for intravenous injection, when the conductor is connected to the peripheral line for intravenous injection. The first section of the actuator is in contact with the outer surface of the conductor in such a way that (1) a longitudinal axis formed by the second section of the actuator is not parallel to a longitudinal axis formed by the conductor, and (2) the second section of the actuator applies to the proximal end section of the catheter a force capable of increasing the internal tension inside at least the catheter section. The force applied by the actuator to the proximal end section of the catheter is the second force, different from the first force, wherein the second force leads to a deviation of the catheter section located between the actuator and the lock, when the actuator moves the catheter from the first position to the second position. A method for moving fluid to or from a patient contains stages, at which: the lock of the above-mentioned device is connected to the peripheral line for intravenous injection; the first force is applied to the actuator to move the actuator relatively to the conductor to move the catheter from the first position, in which the distal end section of the catheter is located inside the lumen formed by the lock, towards the second position; the second force is applied to the proximal end section of the catheter, when the actuator moves the catheter from the first position towards the second position; the catheter section located between the actuator and the lock is deflected by the first value in response to the second force, when the catheter is moved from the first position to the second position; and the catheter section located between the actuator and the lock is deflected by the second value greater than the first value in response to (1) the second force and (2) the collision of the distal end section of the catheter with an obstacle, when the catheter is moved from the first position to the second position.

EFFECT: inventions provide for the need for an improved device and method for phlebotomy through the peripheral intravenous catheter.
