SUBSTANCE: invention relates to image encoding tools. At least one shortened unary code word from the bitstream is decoded. The type of horizontal conversion is determined for the conversion block using the decoded single shortened unary code word, and the type of vertical conversion is determined using the decoded single shortened unary codeword. The decoded single shortened unary code word used to determine the type of horizontal conversion is the same as the decoded single shortened unary code word used to determine the type of vertical conversion. Using the decoded single shortened unary code word, different types of conversion are determinable for the type of horizontal conversion and the type of vertical conversion. The conversion block in the image is decoded by applying the determined type of horizontal conversion and the determined type of vertical conversion to the conversion block in the image.
EFFECT: increase in the efficiency of encoding.
