The optical line terminal (OLT) of the passive optical network family performs real-time monitoring with respect to changes in the authorized optical network unit (ONU) interval or the number of ONU operations in connected and offline mode and receives a set of suspicious ONUs with long-term light interference of the pulse type and the terminal performs fault diagnostics with respect to a set of suspicious ONUs to receive ONUs with long-term light interference of the pulse type.

EFFECT: increase in the accuracy of determining the position of optical network devices (ONUs) with long-term pulse-type light interference.
