FIELD: physical processes.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to an irradiation target for producing radioisotopes and to a method for manufacture thereof. The target comprises at least one plate defining a central hole and an elongated central element passing through the central hole of at least one plate. At least one plate is therein retained on the elongated central element. At least one plate and the elongated central element are made of materials producing molybdenum-99 (Mo–99) by means of neutron capturing. In the method for manufacturing a target, a continuous groove is formed on the outer surface of the central element between the first and second ends, the central element is passed through the central hole of at least one plate, and the first end and the second end of the central element are expanded radially outward relative to the longitudinal central axis of the central element. The outer diameters of the first end and the second end are greater than the diameter of the central hole of at least one plate.
EFFECT: optimisation of the process of producing the material based on Mo–99 for a possibility of using said material in Tc–99m generators in a timely mode.
