SUBSTANCE: disclosed are a method (versions) and a fermentation system (versions) for anaerobic fermentation of a gaseous substrate to form a liquid product. Method involves feeding a gaseous substrate into a bioreactor, feeding an ionophore into the bioreactor and fermenting the substrate to form a liquid product. System comprises a fermentation vessel, a gaseous substrate supply channel, a fermentation broth in the vessel, an ionophore supply channel and a liquid collection channel. Fermentation broth contains a fermenting type of microorganisms and a competing type of microorganisms. Ionophore has selectivity with inhibition of growth and/or formation of an undesirable product by a competitive type of microorganisms — acetogens or homoacetogens.

EFFECT: invention reduces the effect of competing microorganisms.
