FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: present invention relates to a method for extraction of hexanoic acid and/or its composite ester from an aqueous medium for fermentation, while hexanoic acid and/or its composite ester are or are produced by specific cells from a carbon source. The method includes following stages: (a) bringing hexanoic acid and/or its composite ester in the aqueous medium for fermentation into contact with at least one extractant for a time sufficient for extraction of hexanoic acid and/or its composite ester from the aqueous medium to the extractant, (b) separation of the extractant with extracted hexanoic acid and/or its composite ester from the aqueous medium for fermentation. Moreover, the extractant provides a mixture of at least one alkylphosphinoxide and at least one alkane, where alkane contains at least 12 carbon atoms.
EFFECT: creation of an effective extraction method.
