SUBSTANCE: double-sided cutting insert with an orientation-contributing configuration comprises identical and opposing first and second main surfaces and a peripheral surface extending between said main surfaces. The insert also comprises a median plane located in the middle between the first and second main surfaces and the opposing first and second clamping recesses, open to the first and second main surfaces, respectively. The projections of at least sections of the first and second clamping recesses on the median plane are offset relative to each other in the direction of rotation around the central axis.
EFFECT: orientation of the insert in the socket of the cutting tool is improved.
