FIELD: cutting tools.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the processing of materials by cutting; it can be used, when milling surfaces with a rotary cutting tool. The tool contains a cutting case and a set of cutting inserts. The first insert is fixed with the possibility of removal in the first socket, and the second one – in the second socket. The first socket is open to the front end surface of the cutting case, which has a landing surface with an axial support wall transverse to it, and the second socket is located at the rear in the axial direction from the first socket. The first insert has opposite front and rear end surfaces of the insert with a peripheral side surface of the insert passing between them, which is in contact with the landing surface and the axial support wall. The first main cutting edge of the first insert axially overlaps the second main cutting edge of the second insert. In a side view of the cutting tool, a raised protruding surface adjacent to the axial support wall is at least partially covered by the second insert.
EFFECT: continuous effective cutting edge is provided along one chip recess, and the milling tool is improved.
