FIELD: oil industry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to petrochemistry and oil industry, namely to a method of producing cationites by sulfonation of asphaltenes. Method (versions) involves reaction of asphaltenes with chlorosulfonic acid formed in situ directly during sulfonation reaction when reacting equimolar amounts of a chlorinating agent – thionyl chloride (according to version 1) or phosphorus pentachloride (according to version 2) with concentrated sulfuric acid, sulfonation is carried out in the medium of a suitable solvent at a weight ratio of sulfuric acid to asphaltenes of at least 10 to 1 until the reaction is complete for at least 8 hours.
EFFECT: selective sulfonation in mild conditions with formation of mainly sulfo groups, which leads to production with high output of end products, having good characteristics for use as sorbents and solid acid catalysts for organic synthesis, including those with high static exchange capacity; recycling of oil refining wastes and expansion of the range of asphaltene sulfonation methods.
